originally posted on 575 Mile.

these were all written the fall semester of 2003 while in my junior year at emerson college. some of them have a theme (mostly sex) and some are addressed to other members of the community. i hope you enjoy them.

this will make sense later. start reading!

is that your shadow
or a rough charcoal outline
either way, you're art

if someone asked me
about new trends for O four
i'd say spurs are in

she said, "i'll wed him."
pointing at glossy rock stars
older than her dad

she said to him once,
"honey, please pass the ketchup"
she fell, knife in eye

just ink and typed text
keep me company right now
lonely companions

when the skies are green
one is weary of the sea
man thrown overboard

this is such hassle
who likes who is such a game
tell me the answers

just a morning fog
rolling along too slowly
blocking my good view

a long time coming
inevitable return
will others join me

i'll miss the skyline
city lights keeping me safe
never lonely here

utterly alone
black lace lingerie, the cure
goth porno movie

what i think is fun
other people do not get
but no complaints here

alone hanging out
six people drinking cheap beer
call it a party

hard time for the nip
stuck here in the rice paddy
no kama sutra

some people should die
writing bad haiku is not
accepted right here

ode to justiny:
on the up escalator
but "she's" on the down

ode to damien:
please step out of the station
life is passing by

ode to sabrina:
idolizes marilyn
should be vice versa

ode to the fader:
do you use your umbrella
to avoid cancer

janice homemade stew
can beat any soup kitchen
better than campbell's

ode to justiny:
he is a post-grunge rebel
looking for freckles

ode to barrios:
one day your robot body
will disintegrate

identical twins
one person split into two
patty duke complex

there is just one rule
do not talk about fight club
do not forget it

my leg is shaking
with sexual frustration
spring feelings in fall

thinking with passion
about hip bones and blue eyes
frustration in class

two yawns in a row
waiting for an itchy palm
yawns bring no money

i'm writing haikus
ignoring class presentations
trying to stay zen

explosion of sorts
metal and glassy sparks float
shrapnel in the eye

protagonist girl
wants to have sex with old men
they all reject her

what is that black speck
a fly in my cereal
eat it anyway

her hand moves across
paper, swift, like small ripples
in a man-made lake

pinching her eyes shut
her mouth is a rounded O
red marks down his back

taste salt on his neck
human magarita glass
you are my liquor

tripping down the stairs
she can't hear what's behind her
then bloody footprints

self destruction force
looking for a new outlet
but that socket shocks

there is just one clue
conservatory, Green, wrench
incorrect answer

into my airspace
stealing all the oxygen
suffocation blues

tell secrets to foes
pull them in closer with lies
the dirty bastards

no holes in my chucks
just lonely grey shoelaces
Disintegrated

live in the eighties
with cusack and miss ringwald
Cure in the background

at the post office
a girl cuts in front of me
shoot her with my gun

saturdays for me
watch the world through my window
there is nothing real

staring in the mirror
she can't recognize herself
life of the undead

dude, i love the cock
for breakfast, lunch and dinner
next job as fluffer

single and happy
loving yourself not a crime
i would date myself

J, i like the boys
i don't like the poontang, dear
try again next week

one-eyed one-horned fly
-ing purple people eater

doogie howser ruled

she sleeps in the park
under the stars on the bench
her breath like liquor

stubbed my toe today
on the corner of my desk
my slave kissed it well

hero of the day
rescues kids from broccoli
what horrid green plants

knee deep in pussy
though not of strippers and sluts
it's only midgets

on and on and on
then the long musical part
built to spill is great

sometimes i stab things
to show people i'm the boss
like tony danza

roastaroma tea
it's for the coffee lover
but it's caffeine free

cereal with soy
milk is not tasty at all
try some whole milk please

he lacks fashion sense
that yellow caped demon boy
ate the Monkey King

he swings from the trees
on the search for spelling bees
look out, Monkey King

Janice, this is fun
but i thought this was a war
i guess i was wrong

she spoke in latin
but this was not early rome
i shrugged my shoulders

dreaming of zombies
thanks for not eating my brain
that tap dance was great

you're right i'm jealous
trading in brown eyes for green
they match my scarf now

resist temptation
by focusing on mix tapes
not on your blue eyes

helpless in kitchens
i have boys cook for me now
repay them with sex
